Arby’s Tweet Sparks Woke Meltdown, Ensnaring James Lindsay and Matt Walsh
We’re reporting on a recent Arby’s tweet that has caused widespread outrage, leading to meltdowns from both the hypersensitive social justice left and a strange, new group we’re calling the “woke right”. This incident, more than anything else we’ve seen, feels like a “scop” meant to divide the right.
The tweet in question stated, “Unlike dad, our ham and Swiss actually came back“. This is clearly a meme referencing the common joke about a dad leaving to get milk or smokes and never returning. We honestly didn’t think there was any racial connotation to this joke; we’ve made it, our black friends have made it, and it’s never felt racially charged. However, as expected, the far left was upset, and surprisingly, so was a segment of conservatives.
Reactions from the “Leftoids”
Many on the left interpreted the tweet negatively. Some called it a “black joke”, claiming Arby’s knew their customer base and were being “dumb and heartless”. Others felt it was “kind of racist” and low class. Comments included outrage like “y’all dumb and heartless for this chick-fil-a would never” and “kind of racist don’t you think”. People said Arby’s should fire the marketing team responsible, thought it showed “poor form”, and believed it wouldn’t bring in business. Some even wondered if Arby’s had “shorted” their own stock. The comments and quote tweets were full of what we’re calling “soft leftoids having meltdowns”. There were also people who found it funny, saying things like “Based Arby’s” or laughing at the outrage. One person expressed hating “the blasé way fatherlessness is joked about,” to which others responded about raising kids or questioned how else one is supposed to joke about it. Despite some claiming it offends black customers, it was also noted that Arby’s is potentially “the whitest fast food chain in America”.
James Lindsay’s “Woke Right” Narrative Collapses
What was most interesting was the reaction from certain figures on the right. James Lindsay, in particular, had a meltdown. He posted a tweet expressing outrage about the same Arby’s tweet. Lindsay and others literally tried to argue that Arby’s was trying to appeal to a “woke right” demographic. Lindsay’s concept of a “woke right” is, in our view, nonsense – a “complete scop” and a “pathetic attempt for people who were once popular to try and get popular again”. While there are conservatives we disagree with, including some who are pro-cancel culture, this “woke right” terminology that Lindsay and Jordan Peterson have been pushing “is not a thing”. This single Arby’s tweet, in our opinion, has “completely destroyed the woke right narrative”.
Lindsay later deleted his tweet and apologized after being “ruthlessly mocked”. We personally poked fun at his reaction, posting a meme about him being upset about the Arby’s ad. His response was to call us a “skank,” despite being married for almost 20 years and not understanding why he’d use that insult. We then replied, “Where did the beef and cheddar touch you James?”, to which he simply repeated “skank”. We believe he turned into a “complete laughingstock” and got his feelings hurt because we made fun of his post.
Matt Walsh and the Accusations
The situation escalated when Lindsay went after Matt Walsh, who had joked about the Arby’s tweet. Lindsay accused Walsh of being “woke right”. Matt Walsh then tweeted, “Oh no maybe I am woke right after all”. He also posted old tweets from 2016 and 2017 where he had praised Arby’s, calling it the “best fast food” and better than Chick-fil-A. This highlighted the absurdity of calling him “woke right” for simply tweeting about Arby’s. Lindsay continued his meltdown, describing the supposed “woke right play on Daily Wire” as generating conflict, currently using Matt Walsh.
Candace Owens also weighed in, calling Lindsay “insufferable”. She pushed back against his “neocon paranoia” and “delusional prognostications”, referencing past instances where Lindsay and others circulated rumors about her and Brett Cooper’s departures from Daily Wire and their future plans, which turned out to be false. She suggested his theories about Matt Walsh were another “manic episode” likely triggered by Walsh’s appearance on Tucker Carlson. Owens stated that people appear on Tucker Carlson’s show because he is “well-liked,” “respected,” has a “massive platform,” and is a “humble and forthright person,” suggesting there are no larger conspiracy theories involved. Lindsay’s response to her explanation was to call it a “straw man”.
Ultimately, the entire situation devolved into meltdowns over an Arby’s tweet. The idea that Arby’s is somehow part of or appealing to a “woke right” movement, as suggested by Lindsay, is unbelievable. Some have even joked that the “woke fund woke right is funded by dark money from Arby’s” or that the entire thing was a “covert marketing scheme for Arby’s”. We believe that figures like James Lindsay are “not a serious person” and should be mocked just like the “leftoids” who got upset.
