SNOW WHITE SHOCKER! DISNEY DEMANDED RACHEL ZEGLER DELETE Social Media Posts After Anti-Trump and Palestine Controversy
What’s going on everyone, Jeremy here from TheQuartering, and we’ve got a wild story for you about the ongoing saga of Disney’s live-action Snow White remake. It turns out the silence from the film’s star, Rachel Zegler, on social media after her controversial remarks wasn’t just her decision. A new report claims that Disney held an emergency meeting and even flew someone to New York to reprimand Zegler over her social media use.
As many of you remember, Zegler, who seems to dislike a significant portion of the country, sparked outrage after saying she hoped nothing but bad things would happen to Donald Trump and his voters. But that wasn’t the only online activity causing headaches for the Mouse House.
According to Variety, the trouble began even earlier, three months after Zegler was criticized for commenting “always remember free Palestine” on a trailer for her PG-rated movie. Following this, she reportedly posted “F Donald Trump” and stated that Trump supporters and Trump himself would never know peace.
Disney, understandably worried about alienating the nearly 50% of Americans who voted for Trump in the same month the film was slated for release, took swift action regarding Zegler’s online presence. The studio, which poured a staggering $270 million into this project, allegedly hired a social media guru to closely monitor and vet any of Zegler’s posts before the movie’s March 21st release.
The situation escalated to the point where producer Mark Platt, known for his work on last year’s Wicked, reportedly flew from Los Angeles to New York to implore Zegler to remove her Palestine post while she was performing in Romeo and Juliet on Broadway. While Zegler apparently stood her ground on that issue, the fact that Disney felt the need to send a producer to personally intervene speaks volumes. Notably, Platt is reported to have been raised in a conservative Jewish home.
Now, fast forward to the film’s release, and the numbers are in – and they aren’t pretty. Despite Zegler’s celebratory post claiming Snow White was the number one movie in the country, she had to turn off comments on her own Instagram after being bombarded with criticism. Many pointed out the film’s dismal opening, with one commenter sarcastically asking, “What in the Hunter Biden have you been smoking you had the worst opening in Disney history”.
Indeed, the film only raked in $43 million in its opening weekend, marking the lowest opening for a Disney live-action remake of all time. To put this in perspective, one rival studio executive noted that with a $270 million budget and multiple reshoots, an opening below even the low-end projections of $45-55 million is simply not acceptable. They stated bluntly, “You can’t say that a live-action remake out of the iconic uh Vault that cost 270 million and had re had to be refilmed multiple times opening to 50 million is okay. The math does not work. That movie should have been a billion doll movie”.
Adding fuel to the fire, there are reports of even more controversy. Sources indicate that Zegler’s comments have been blamed for spiking death threats towards her co-star, Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen. The implication is that Zegler’s “free Palestine” post, made in proximity to promoting a film featuring an Israeli actress, inadvertently put Gadot in the crosshairs of online harassment. While the nature of these threats hasn’t been publicly verified, the report itself paints a grim picture.
Box office analysts like Jeff Brock from Exhibitor Relations have pointed to the years of negative controversy surrounding the film as a significant factor in its poor performance, compounded by subpar reviews. The film’s CinemaScore of D+ further suggests a lack of audience appeal. To break even, Snow White reportedly needs to earn a staggering $750 million.
It seems clear that Disney is now evaluating what went wrong with this production. As one insightful observation from the sources notes, “when somebody shows you who they are believe them the first time”. This whole situation is shaping up to be a monumental disaster for Disney, and we’ll continue to follow this developing story right here on TheQuartering.
