Tragedy Strikes Twice: Mother of Four and Young Teacher Lost to Senseless Violence
Recent events highlight a deeply troubling trend, leaving many feeling a profound sense of fatigue. We feel something significant must change. We’re bringing attention to two stories that have gone viral but haven’t received widespread mainstream media coverage.
One victim, a mother of four, was tragically killed while working as an Uber driver. The 25-year-old suspect, Calvin Crew, was sentenced to life for taking her life. The victim, Christina Spacuza, was found two days later in Pittsburgh. Disturbingly, Spacuza could be heard begging for her life in dashcam footage as Crew held her hostage. The footage ended when Crew noticed the camera. He reportedly threw the camera out of her car and then texted his girlfriend, “We’re in big trouble if we get caught”. We find it difficult to comprehend the number of sociopaths.
Spacuza’s fiance delivered a dramatic impact statement, expressing his pain and calling Crew a “coward” for not showing up to his sentencing. He stated Chrissy was “everything for my family” and saw something in him when he was “lost out of control”. Spacuza’s family asked the court not to give Crew the death penalty, stating they showed “mercy on the monster”. Prosecutors also said they would not seek the death penalty earlier this year. Beyond the life sentence for taking Spacuza’s life, Crew was also given 13 to 26 years for kidnapping and robbery. We question why someone would target an Uber driver who wouldn’t have cash, suggesting the motive might have been something other than robbery, possibly involving taking her somewhere or performing a “hit”. We observed Spacuza picked up Crew, who was wearing a dark hoodie and a mask.
On the same day or week, a young aspiring teacher also suffered a similar fate. Logan Haley Federico, a 20-year-old (or 22-year-old depending on the source reference point) teacher, was found by friends in her home in Waxaw, North Carolina, on Saturday morning. We understand her crime was simply crossing paths with a stranger at the wrong time and place.
The suspect, identified as Alexander Dicki, 30, allegedly carried out a days-long crime spree. Authorities say Dicki is known as a repeat offender with many past convictions, including attacking others. He allegedly broke into homes, stole items including the weapon used to take Federico’s life, stole her credit cards, and fled in a stolen car. A multi-agency manhunt was launched to track down the suspect, who wasn’t caught for almost two days. He allegedly forced his way into Federico’s home. Following a tense standoff with police outside another home, he reportedly set that home on fire. We believe this is not how “normal people act”. We’ve questioned why this individual wasn’t kept in prison, particularly given his repeat offender status.
Tributes have poured in for Logan Federico. Her father, Steven Federico, held a heartbreaking press conference, stating his daughter was a strong, fun-loving, goal-oriented individual. He said she would “live on forever” and somehow touch and protect people, having a “huge decision about what kids’ life” and looking over them.
We feel strongly that there’s a disturbing trend, and people are growing weary of this. Something has to change, and individuals like these must remain in prison to prevent more innocent victims. We believe this summer may be heading towards something extremely troubling.
