Recently, many Twitch streamers have reported huge drops in ad revenue, with some losing as much as 95% of their usual earnings—and nobody knows why.
This sudden decline has hit even the platform’s top streamers, many of whom used to earn thousands of dollars a month from ads. Now, those earnings have been slashed to just a fraction of what they used to be, even though the streamers themselves haven’t changed anything about their content.
For some, ad revenue is a major source of income. Clips on social media show streamers venting their frustrations, like Lacy, who revealed that his ad revenue dropped from $10,000 a day to just $2,000. While that’s still a lot compared to the average worker’s income, for streamers who rely on consistent earnings, this kind of drop can be devastating. Twitch encouraged streamers to rely on ad revenue, and now it’s suddenly cut that income without warning or explanation.
It’s like your boss cutting your paycheck by 80% overnight without telling you why. Streamers still have other sources of income, like subscriptions and donations, but the loss of ad revenue is a big blow.
One streamer, TheStockGuy, has even turned off ads on his streams because the small earnings aren’t worth the disruption to his viewers. He reported a 95% drop in ad revenue, one of the worst examples of the adpocalypse so far.
Twitch hasn’t explained why this is happening. I’ve reached out to them for a comment, but so far, there’s no answer.
