NEWS ALERT: Walmart Under Fire Amid Mass Layoffs, H-1B Debate, and Widespread Boycotts
Whoa, what is even happening in this world? We’re seeing massive shifts, and honestly, for me, this is what I voted for. We need to hire American. We definitely don’t need any more importing jobs.
The latest shockwave comes from Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, which recently slashed 1,500 jobs. These cuts primarily hit the technology department as the company aims to streamline operations and adapt to evolving tech demands. While Walmart says these layoffs are part of a cost-cutting strategy and are not directly related to H-1B hiring, this move has sparked a fresh and heated debate around H-1B visas and brought scrutiny upon the company’s Indian-origin Global Chief Technology Officer, Suresh Kumar.
A viral social media post has alleged a disturbing connection, claiming it’s no coincidence that over 40% of Walmart’s IT department consists of H-1B visa holders from India.
This comes at a time when the tech sector is facing mass layoffs, coupled with the looming threat of AI set to potentially “eviscerate” entry-level STEM jobs. In this climate, they’ve approved 135,000 H-1Bs. But we are saying, guess what? This should not happen. Here’s how many H-1B visas we need this year: Zero. In fact, every one that’s been issued should be unissued. Everybody’s got to go home. And every one of those positions must be replaced by an American citizen.
They cannot show us one example of a position where someone filling that role has better education or experience than an American. The reason they are doing this? It’s simple – they’re paying these people 50% less and reportedly working them incredibly long hours, like 20 hours a day, seven days a week. They’re paying them 50% less and working holidays, whatever hours. This means companies can hire two of them for every one American.
I believe H-1Bs should not exist. They should only be issued for someone with an incredibly high IQ, like 140 or higher. We’re not bringing in the “best and brightest”. For the most part, we’re bringing in the “bottom of the barrel people” that are willing to, frankly, be a slave for these corporations. Democrats should have a huge problem with this – whatever happened to workers’ rights?. I certainly don’t think it’s cool that Walmart takes advantage of these people. While Walmart has denied the allegations, I suspect they’ll be making some big decisions around H-1Bs.
In other news, it looks like Walmart has decided to freeze spending due to a DEI rollback underway. This is exactly what I voted for.
Meanwhile, grassroots groups are taking aim at corporate greed and the roll back of DEI initiatives, and another round of boycotts is underway. This time, a nationwide spending freeze targets Walmart stores. A week-long Walmart boycott started across the United States on May 20th and ran until May 26th.
This spending freeze is a response to both the retailer’s rollback of DEI and their alleged corporate greed in raising prices, specifically blaming tariffs under President Trump. The boycott is organized by the People’s Union, the same group that coordinated a previous consumer blackout in February. The People’s Union founder, John Schwarz, urged people to stop spending money at Walmart and Sam’s Club during the boycott period. He claims these boycotts are negatively affecting business.
Why boycott Walmart? Because after all the record profits, tax loopholes, and corporate greed, Walmart now again wants to raise prices, using tariffs as the excuse. As if they aren’t already raking in billions. As if they can’t absorb the cost. As if you and I should carry this burden. This is a company that has had chance after chance and has just doubled down on greed. We need to send a powerful message: We are done. We are organizing and not backing down. And this is just the beginning. After the 4th of July, Walmart, just like Amazon, will feel a blackout so loud, so long, they won’t be able to ignore it.
It’s interesting to see these various boycotts happening. There was also a Target boycott planned for June 3rd through June 9th, reportedly over DEI. It makes you wonder whose boycotts are stronger – the people who want DEI and are boycotting, or the people who don’t want DEI. Frankly, the woke contingent trying to boycott the largest retailer in the world just doesn’t seem to have the power.
Adding to customer frustration, we’re seeing shoppers slam Walmart for unusual packaging on popular grocery items. For instance, rotisserie chickens are showing up in plastic bags instead of the usual containers. This is linked to the tariffs “starting to bite” or perhaps just Walmart “cheaping out” to maximize profits, using tariffs as an excuse. They are using the tariff as an excuse, but it’s not an excuse. They are just maximizing profits, and people are sick of it.
If you’re buying those rotisserie chickens in plastic bags, you’re probably eating more microplastics than chicken. The poor packaging means they leak everywhere. This kind of cost-cutting on essentials, while simultaneously raising prices and pocketing billions, is part of the corporate greed that people are reacting against.
