Community Ignored as Victim Attacked, Forced to Apologize; Mother Seeks Help to Move
We recently brought you a deeply concerning story out of Madison, Indiana, where a young boy was violently attacked in a park. The victim, described as a little white boy, around eight to ten years old, was jumped by several non-white boys. This wasn’t an isolated incident, as the mother reports a history of issues with these boys in the community. They’ve shown significant disrespect, including throwing trash and rocks into her yard, and even firing Orbeez water BBs at their dogs. When confronted, the boys would reportedly make threats involving their parents, claiming they have weapons.
We showed you clips of the incident where the boys were picking on the victim, described as a “little chubby kid”. A group of other kids, appearing older, circled around. One of the younger boys started the physical attack. Then, a much older kid, appearing to be a teenager, blindsided the victim. The attackers then got on top of him and pummeled him. The victim was reportedly trying to walk away when he was jumped, and he had to get stitches as a result of the attack.
In the wake of the beating, which reportedly rocked the community, a meetup was held to support the victim, Jason. Local leaders, including a group of bikers, were involved. There was an attempt by some, including Kevin Hmel Senior, to get the kids together, resulting in a photo op that was presented as if the boys had made up.
However, we reported that this “makeup” was fake. The truth is, they did not make up. According to the mother, this “roving gang of youths is still terrorizing the community and this kid too”. She states the parents even made her son, the victim, humiliate himself and forgive his attackers.
The mother is struggling. She told us she wants her son to get support and connection with men who have good character and values. She is a single mom of four and states her son’s father is a “POS” who has disappeared again. She says Jason is still dealing with bullies and she can’t get any backup when these incidents occur. The situation has become so overwhelming that this woman just wants to move out of this community. She also mentioned having to be careful due to her place of employment.
Initially, we heard that the two boys were facing charges, and we stressed the importance of this, stating they should get charges for attacking and jumping him. There is a crime for that. However, the mother later stated that it in fact has not gotten better, and there have been no charges, no suspension, not even a slap on the wrist. Instead, these kids reportedly received a “shiny award”.
We discussed how Dylan Danis, a fighter familiar to many, has been talking with the mother. He has offered to get support for Jason, help him get into a gym so he knows how to fight, and help out financially, noting that a lot of people online have her back.
We highlighted how this incident and the lack of accountability tie into a larger, concerning trend. There’s a discussion happening about a new definition for “black fatigue”. While the old term referred to the tiredness from pressures of being black, the new definition gaining momentum is a general malaise or tiredness of folks seeing videos or experiencing crime at the hands of this community. We noted that while crime exists in all communities, we seem to see a new video every day of groups of young unaccompanied youths committing aggressive acts, taking people’s lives, stabbing people, roaming the streets. We questioned where the videos are of other groups doing the same, specifically asking to see videos of white kids ganging up on black kids in parks.
It’s frustrating to see the lack of consequences. We argued that we cannot address an issue if we cannot accurately describe what that issue is. People are getting tired of headlines that obscure the reality. We are done pretending like this is “just some kids roughousing”. It seems like many people in other communities have to keep paying the price because criminals are not being kept in jail. We believe the simple solution is to keep the criminals in jail. These kids that attacked should go to jail. We stressed that if the races were reversed in the park, the white kids should absolutely be charged. The problem, as we see it, is that this simply isn’t happening. This situation is not only frustrating but also tiresome for people.
