We’ve got some exciting news heading our way!
After a two-year-long absence, Elden Ring has received a new trailer at Summer Game Fest today. Plus a release date has been set for January 21, 2022, for both new-gen and last-gen consoles.
The long-awaited Elden Ring trailer is full of familiar elements for fans of From Software’s Souls series. Large, even colossal, enemies, a dark fantasy world, and spirits from other worlds that could potentially aid (or harm) the player. In terms of gameplay, this is very much a From Souls game.
There are some firsts in the Elden Ring trailer such as mounts as the player is seen traversing through the world on a flying horse. It’s clear from the trailer that Elden Ring is bigger than any Souls game From Software has made before it, and as the mystery of the Elden Ring will likely confound players long after release, we can at least marvel at the scale Elden Ring is operating on.
Elden Ring was first announced at E3 2019 as a high-profile collaboration between Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki and A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) author George R.R. Martin, who was responsible for creating the world and myth of Elden Ring for Miyazaki and the From Soft team to fill in.
Despite the blockbuster news that two of the biggest fantasy authors in entertainment were working on a game together, Elden Ring lay dormant for the past two years. This has pushed the fan community to grow and speculate over Elden Ring intensely. From Software, biding its time apparently, thanked fans for their support but still withheld the next big info drop.
It seems that the wait allowed From Software to not only reveal a new gameplay trailer but also a release date. And there will certainly be a lot for the community to chew on until the release in 2022. Who is the mysterious woman (a staple of Souls game mind you), what is the Elden Ring or Golden Order? And who is that monstrous crowned figure at the end of the trailer?
