For too long, we’ve seen the left try to push for as many people as possible to vote, regardless of their eligibility. There’s even talk of flying in immigrants and driving them to the polls. This has to stop, and this executive order is a significant step in that direction. As President Trump himself said while signing the order, this will hopefully go a long way towards ending fraud.
This sweeping order includes several key provisions designed to bolster election integrity. One of the most significant aspects is the requirement for documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. We agree wholeheartedly with this. If you’re a citizen, providing a driver’s license, birth certificate, or passport shouldn’t be an issue. The only people who would have a problem with this are those who want to keep importing voters who will vote a certain way.
Furthermore, the order demands that all ballots be received by election day. Enough of this waiting days after the election to know the results. States like Florida manage to count their votes quickly, so there’s no reason why this can’t be the gold standard across the board. The order also eliminates postmark deadlines on mail-in voting.
This executive action isn’t just about voter registration and ballot deadlines. It also includes a Doge review of voter registration databases, limits the use of electronic ballots, and plans to withhold federal assistance to non-compliant states. We are 1,000% behind this! Elections must be honest and worthy of public trust. The order also requires voting methods that produce a voter-verifiable paper record.
The Trump administration intends this order to bolster the integrity of American elections. It will put a citizenship question on federal voting forms. While this move will likely face legal challenges, especially given that states have authority over elections, we believe this is a necessary step. As Republicans have rightly pointed out, voting in federal elections by non-citizens is already illegal. The order also directs federal agencies like the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to share data with election officials to help identify non-citizens on voter rolls. The Attorney General is also directed to prioritize enforcement of federal election integrity laws.
Some voting groups are expressing concerns that this could disenfranchise people. However, we believe these are often nonsense excuses. For the vast majority of citizens, obtaining proof of citizenship is not an insurmountable obstacle.
