July 8, 2025Tragedy in Texas: Community Outrage Follows Vile Online Mocks of Flood Victims, Including Children
A devastating flash flood in Texas over the weekend has tragically claimed dozens of lives, including many children from a summer camp, prompting an outpouring of grief and horror. Amidst this profound tragedy, our channel has observed a disturbing trend of individuals making heinous, politicized, and deeply insensitive comments online, leading to swift and significant consequences. We believe that these reactions are not merely “cancel culture,” but rather “consequence culture,” reflecting a loss of common decency when some seek to score political points from human suffering.
The floodwaters rose with unprecedented speed, expanding to quadruple their size in less than 30 minutes in some areas, and in one instance, tripling in size in about 5 minutes before doubling again. The Texas Hill Country, naturally prone to flash floods, experienced a particularly severe storm that dropped most of its 12 inches of rain during the dark, early morning hours. Survivors described the floods as a “pitch black wall of death” and reported receiving no emergency warnings. An entire Christian children’s summer camp, Camp Mystic, was swept away, resulting in the confirmed deaths of 27 children among the 89 total fatalities across the state, with others still missing and families desperate for answers.
One of the most egregious examples of this callous behavior came from Dr. Christina B. Propes, a pediatrician formerly employed at Bluefish MD in Houston. Dr. Propes drew widespread scorn for a now-deleted Facebook post that suggested the flood victims, including the dozens of children, were President Trump supporters who “got what they deserved”. She wrote, “Kerr County mega vote voted to gut FEMA They denied climate change May they get what they’re voted for Bless their hearts”. Bluefish Pediatrics quickly condemned her comments, stating they “do not reflect the value standards or mission of Bluefish Pediatrics” and do not “support or condone any statement that politicizes a tragedy diminishes human dignity or fails to clearly uphold compassion for every child and family regardless of background or beliefs”. After an initial suspension, Bluefish Pediatrics confirmed that Dr. Propes no longer works for the company. Online backlash against her post was immense, with social media users expressing horror and concern about her proximity to patients.
The disturbing comments were not limited to medical professionals. A streamer known as Nick Pollm made utterly repulsive remarks about the children who passed away, stating, “They don’t have much to live for anyways. It’s okay” and suggesting their futures were bleak due to AI and ChatGPT. We find such “edgelord cringe” profoundly disrespectful and inhumane.
Another streamer, Destiny, shared a tweet falsely asserting that “God took the lives of those of those kids because they were using NordVPN promo code Destiny to get around the Texas prawn ban”. This deeply offensive post, which garnered thousands of likes, led NordVPN to issue a public statement clarifying that no such sponsorship existed and that they are “reviewing the misuse of our trademark”. We anticipate that NordVPN will likely sue him over this egregious misuse of their brand, particularly in connection with such a tragedy.
It is our firm belief that such tragedies have nothing to do with politics or climate change; this was a sudden, devastating flash flood that happened too quickly for many to escape. The focus must remain on the human toll and the ongoing efforts to recover victims and support survivors, like the 13-year-old Camp Mystic camper who described the trauma of the floods and the sound of military helicopters overhead. The actions of those who mocked the deceased, particularly children, are vile and demonstrate an absolute lack of standards. We hope this coverage sheds light on the devastating impact of both the natural disaster and the profoundly disturbing human reactions that followed.
