June 23, 2025Breaking News: Iran Launches Missiles at US Bases – Escalation or Posturing?
We are bringing you urgent updates as Iran has reportedly fired six ballistic missiles towards our base in Qatar, as well as targets in Iraq. This breaking news comes after a weekend where the Department of Defense was tracking a credible threat to US forces in the region, following a surprise American strike on three nuclear sites.
Airspace Closed, US Subs Dive Amidst Rising Tensions
Initial reports indicated sirens sounding and missiles inbound towards a US Army base in Qatar, a base which we are told had largely been evacuated, with planes that were not hangered already moved. Airspace in Qatar is now closed, and Iranian ships have blocked entrances to certain areas, with United States submarines reported to have gone underwater. The airspace over the UAE, where the US has another large military base, has also been closed, and we’re learning of potential imminent threats to US troops and personnel in Iraq. Siren soundings have also been reported at US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait.
Missile Defense Systems Active: No Impacts Reported
Our sources confirm that US Patriot missiles, part of our missile defense system, have been activated, intercepting incoming ballistic missiles. We have seen imagery of explosions in the air over Doha, Qatar, with some of those being air defense missiles working to intercept. Crucially, as of right now, initial reports indicate there were absolutely zero strikes or impacts at US bases in Qatar. Similar intercepts have been reported over Kuwait by US and coalition forces.
Telegraphed Attack? Historical Context and Speculation
There are unconfirmed reports suggesting that this attack may have been telegraphed to United States officials beforehand, potentially to avoid military casualties. We’ve seen this tactic before: just after the killing of Qasem Soleimani four years ago, Iran fired dozens of ballistic missiles at US troops in Iraq. In that 2020 incident, Iran retaliated by firing more than a dozen ballistic missiles at two Iraqi air bases hosting US forces, but we recall there were no casualties then. This history leads many, including us, to believe that this could be a form of posturing. However, the current situation feels like an escalation beyond mere posturing, and it’s becoming harder to ignore the “drums of war”.
Potential War and US Response
The Al Udeid base in Qatar, the largest US base in the Middle East, is about 40 miles from Doha. Satellite images from last week showed the tarmacs at Al Udeid, which normally houses a large number of transport and refueling planes, had been emptied. Warnings were also issued to US embassy staff in Doha to shelter in place.
GPS disruptions have now extended to the Persian Gulf, with GPS jamming reported across Qatar and the UAE. All passenger flights heading towards Qatar have been redirected to Bahrain, despite Bahrain also being reportedly under attack.
President Donald Trump has convened his national security team to prepare for potential Iranian retaliation. The question remains how the US will respond to this act of aggression. Some reports suggest a war with Iran could last at least two years if this is more than just posturing. We continue to hope this is just posturing and that everyone can go home safely.
We will continue to keep you updated on this rapidly developing situation, including live coverage from 2:00 to 4:00 Eastern. We are praying for our troops and for peace.
