Karmelo Anthony Family Reveals Spending Plans for $500,000+ Donations, Raises Goal Again Amid New Claims
The family of Karmelo Anthony, the teenager involved in a recent incident in Texas, has reportedly revealed how they plan to spend the more than $500,000 raised through online fundraising campaigns. The family has also increased their fundraising goal multiple times, from $500,000 to $550,000 after reaching the initial target, and now up to $600,000. They are reportedly “begging for even more money”, but have offered “zero updates” to the thousands of donors.
According to an interview with GiveSendGo co-founder Jacob Wells Gibson, the vast bulk of the funds raised will be used for Karmelo Anthony’s legal defense fund. Gibson reportedly spoke directly with the Anthony family to address concerns that arose after it was reported they were living in a $900,000 rental home in an exclusive gated community with “flashy rides”. Following these questions, the family updated their fundraiser description to clarify where the money is headed.
Beyond legal costs, the family has indicated that some of the money will go towards their living expenses and “much needed security”. Wells Gibson stated that some funds are expected to be used to pay for a secure location for the entire family to live. The family reportedly plans to continue paying the $3,500 a month rent on their current home in the gated community while also potentially buying or renting a second home for security. However, questions have been raised about the necessity of heightened security, as claims of the family being under attack have been called into question. Reports mention only a few kids with water toys driving by their house, and Karmelo Anthony’s father himself has reportedly stated those kids were not threatening them.
New, unconfirmed details about the incident have also emerged from a man identified as Mr. Denali, who claims to be a 10-year friend of Karmelo Anthony’s dad. This individual alleges that the “Mechaf boys” took Karmelo Anthony’s backpack and threw it. He claims Karmelo went back to retrieve it, and this is how he was able to get his hand on the “poker” (referred to as a knife).
Furthermore, Mr. Denali claims that prior to the physical altercation, one of the “white kids” allegedly used a racial slur. He stated Karmelo Anthony allegedly said he was going to punch someone in the face and told them to touch him again. Mr. Denali asserts that one of the other individuals then threw a hand (attempted to punch) at Karmelo, who tried to block it, leading to the fatal incident.
However, skepticism surrounds the claim that a racial slur was used. Despite there reportedly being press and other people present at the bond hearing where this was allegedly admitted, not a single witness or reporter has corroborated this information. Given the media’s focus on such issues, the absence of reporting on an alleged racial slur at the bond hearing by any press outlets is highlighted as highly suspect. The claim that the Mechaf boys threw the backpack is also noted as not being reported by any witness or reporter.
