BREAKING NEWS: Major Brands Ditch Pride Funding in Epic Victory!
We’ve got some incredible news to share! What started as a trickle of funding cuts to small-scale Pride events has turned into an absolute deluge, an absolute avalanche of major brands pulling out of Pride. And we couldn’t be happier about it!
Big names are now publicly distancing themselves from Pride events and celebrations nationwide. This is happening amid a broader DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) rollback. Companies are seemingly backing away from LGBTQ celebrations of all sizes, perhaps intent on staying out of the government’s crosshairs or simply because, as we think, they didn’t want to be involved in the first place but felt pressured before.
We’re seeing significant changes. Long-term partners are declining to sponsor events. Bud Light has cut all Pride funding. Yes, you heard that right – Bud Light said, “We’re not even funding Pride”. Other major players like Mastercard, Pepsi, and Nissan are stopping their spending on Pride. Others confirmed to have backed away include Comcast, Bose Allen Hamilton, and Annheiser Bush. Brands like Boeing, Caterpillar, Toyota, Molson Coores, and Tractor Supply have also reportedly revised their policies.
This massive withdrawal is leaving organizers coast to coast with significant budget shortfalls. Events are facing massive gaps in their budgets. For example, San Francisco Pride, which usually gets about two-thirds of its over $3 million budget from corporate partners, is reportedly short roughly $400,000 this year. Large, multi-day events that rely heavily on corporate partnerships are particularly vulnerable in this climate. Some events have even lowered their sponsorship threshold significantly, down to just $500.
Isn’t it interesting that some companies are willing to provide funding but are asking organizers to keep their names out of it? The rationale they give is consistent: “We still want to support you, but we can’t scream it from the rafters”. We think if these Pride corporations had any morals, they wouldn’t be taking money from companies who only want to secretly do so. Taking money while demanding anonymity? That’s like a husband cheating on his wife!
Organizers are complaining about these funding cuts and also saying they need to spend way more on security. They claim the current administration’s “antipathy” towards certain groups could make their events a “magnet for hate”. We think this is just part of their messaging that they are perpetual victims. They are spending more on security, like Pridefest in St. Louis enclosing its event with a fence and renting a parking garage to shut it down as a potential vantage point. This implies a fear of mass events. But honestly, has there ever been an attack at a Pride event? We think there’s no such thing as “hate crimes,” only crimes. And speaking of attacks, last time we checked, a large percentage of those types of events over the past few years were perpetrated by people who would have been proudly at Pride. Organizers are basically just saying, “We need more money, we need more money for security”. Frankly, nobody cares about their stupid Pride festivals.
Maybe these organizers should learn to budget their money better. Perhaps they should run their events like a business, not a charity, and focus on being profitable instead of expecting corporations to subsidize them.
This is an absolute epic victory. We hope more and more of these brands pull out! Frankly, nobody wants to see this stuff. You can have your Pride Festival, but people don’t want the money they give to corporations being spent to support things like drag time story shows for kids. It’s a pretty easy thing to avoid if you’re not a degenerate.
