Controversial “woke” actress Rachel Zegler, well known as the newest Snow White, has hit yet another box office bomb with her latest film Y2K.
The movie has flopped compared to it’s recent competitors like Wicked, which broke records during it’s premiere.
The A24 horror/comedy, which had a modest $15 million budget, opened to a dismal $2.1 million over its debut weekend.
This weak showing casts serious doubt on whether the film will even come close to breaking even after production and marketing costs. It’s other competitor, Moana 2, broke even higher records while defeating Wicked.
Her stances seem to be affecting her projects, including Disney’s highly anticipated Snow White remake, where the backlash against Zegler’s comments can be seen in the 215,000 “down” votes on the film’s YouTube trailer, compared to just 17,000 “up” votes.
In Y2K, Zegler’s film couldn’t even secure a place in the top five at the box office. It was outperformed by films like Moana 2, Wicked, and Gladiator 2, as well as a re-release of Interstellar.
Even the seventh-placed anime film Solo Leveling: ReAwakening made twice as much money as Zegler’s movie.
Fans are reacting on social media, as one took to X to note: “Rachel Zegler’s latest film, #Y2K, is crashing and burning at the box office, looking to open to a lackluster $2.1 million (hopefully) and earning a dismal “C-” CinemaScore, which is horrible.”
“Worth a mention is that the poor performance comes on the heels of Zegler’s two Disney Snow White trailers receiving massive backlash, including over 2 million dislikes on YouTube,” they finished.
“Rachel Zegler will kill this movie too. She seems to be box office poison for acting like the nasty rat she is. As a person I utterly loath her,” another added. A third shared: “Rachel Zegler is box office snake oil.”
