June 11, 2025Walmart Faces Massive Boycott Amid “No Kings” Protest Controversy
We’ve been closely following a rapidly unfolding situation where Walmart is now facing a significant boycott led by supporters of President Trump and advocates for law and order. This backlash stems from revelations regarding Walmart heiress Chrissy Walton and her alleged role in funding nationwide “No Kings” protests scheduled for this weekend. These events, which we believe are intended to bring chaos to suburban areas across the country, have sparked widespread outrage.
Allegations of Funding “Riots”
Chrissy Walton, identified as a Walmart heiress, reportedly placed full-page advertisements in major national papers, including the New York Times and the Wisconsin State Journal, urging Americans to attend town halls and engage in what was framed as “civic discord”. Our opinion is that these ads are actually funding riots. While the “No Kings Day” initiative did not explicitly name President Trump, its emphasis on values like honoring commitments to allies, defending against dictators, and respecting trading partners was widely interpreted as a direct critique of Trump’s foreign policy and “America First” agenda. We find it hard to believe that many people are truly against an “America First” stance, suggesting such views are rare outside certain coastal areas.
Adding to the concern, some of these “No Kings” protests are even slated to occur in Walmart parking lots. We anticipate that Walmart will soon be compelled to condemn the use of their properties for these events and prohibit them.
Walmart’s Official Response and Disavowal
Following massive public backlash, Walmart has issued a statement attempting to distance itself from Chrissy Walton’s actions. A spokesperson for Walmart informed Newsweek that the advertisements from Chrissy Walton are “in no way connected or endorsed by Walmart”. The company explicitly stated that she does not serve on their board or play any role in decision-making at Walmart.
We were able to convey our concerns directly to Walmart’s executives regarding Chrissy Walton’s ad promoting what we see as “radical leftist protest” and inciting violence. Walmart was very receptive to our concerns and did not push back when we insisted a statement was needed immediately. As a result, Walmart has publicly condemned these “riots,” including any actions directed towards law enforcement or causing property damage. The company affirmed its focus on the safety of its associates and customers, especially in regions like Los Angeles where some protests are planned.
The Boycott Gains Momentum
The controversy has led to significant calls for a boycott of Walmart from Trump supporters. Walmart has faced criticism previously, having been a target of the economic blackout movement last year alongside companies like Amazon, Nestle, and General Mills. We’ve observed that when Trump supporters boycott, they actually follow through, unlike some boycotts we’ve seen from “the left” which have been fueled by bot networks.
Walmart’s social media, particularly its Twitter account, has been heavily “flooded with hate” and has not posted new content in five days, likely due to the ongoing criticism. While Walmart has been replying to customers regarding purchases, they have conspicuously avoided addressing the criticisms concerning the protests.
Our Perspective on Accountability and the Protests
We remain somewhat skeptical of Walmart’s statement. While they did disavow Chrissy Walton’s actions, we believe more may be needed to truly give Walmart a “break” on this. We continue to ask when individuals who fund events where damage occurs will be held accountable.
These “No Kings” protests are scheduled for this Saturday, which notably is also Donald Trump’s birthday. We’re heading out to drive by many of these events in our Cyber Truck in our relatively apolitical state of Wisconsin, intending to observe the turnout. We strongly advise against blocking roads, as people here won’t tolerate it. Our strong guess is that very few people will actually show up to these protests, especially outside of major cities like New York or Los Angeles. Until we see Walmart’s official statement directly on their Twitter, we are happy to continue buying as little as possible from this store.
