Expected Video Release in Karmelo Anthony Case Could Trigger Widespread Outrage and Protests
There is an expectation that video footage of the incident involving Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metav is set to be released. We’ve stated from the beginning, based on our journalistic instincts, that when this video comes out, we believe it will be extremely one-sided and show Karmelo Anthony and those supporting him in a very negative light. Many people suspect the situation depicted is far worse than previously thought, potentially showing the conflict was premeditated or not simply the circumstances initially presented.
If this video supports the claim of self-defense, it’s likely the defense team would have wanted it released already. The belief is that this video release could be a major catalyst. We’ve drawn a comparison to the George Floyd video, suggesting this video could be similarly triggering, particularly out of context. That previous video, when seen without full context, led to the “summer of George Floyd riots”. We think this video could potentially be intended to highly impact white people and make them strongly reject behavior and support for Karmelo Anthony.
While some believe the video is being held back specifically to cause outrage later, we think holding it back might just delay the inevitable. It’s possible we won’t see the video until trial, which we expect could face delays.
Victim’s Family Attacked by Defense, Father Removed from Press Conference
Meanwhile, Karmelo Anthony’s defense team has reportedly launched further horrible and disparaging attacks against the family of the boy who passed away.
A striking incident occurred when Dominique Alexander spoke on behalf of the Anthony family. He recounted an event at a press conference where Austin Metav’s father was present. According to Alexander, they did not know who he was initially and asked him to step back for security reasons. It was only when a media member pointed him out that they realized he was Austin’s father. Alexander stated they didn’t know why the father was there or what his intentions were, implying concern he might pull out a weapon.
We find it incredibly ironic that the victim’s father was asked to leave a press conference about justice because of a perceived potential threat. This action has been described as profiling a grieving father and is not likely helping the Anthony family’s public image. It’s suggested that the father might have been filming, explaining why he might have had a camera. We argue that patting him down and allowing him to stay would have been an option.
Comparisons and Community Issues
We see the stabbing in this case as cold-blooded murder, an extreme overreaction to a verbal disagreement. This kind of behavior, described as poor impulse control and violent responses to perceived disrespect, is something we’ve observed playing out repeatedly in urban communities, often between teenage boys. The difference here is that it occurred in the suburbs of Frisco, Texas, involving a black boy doing something we feel is sadly common among young black boys towards each other. While other communities certainly have violence, we believe the percentages are different. When the video is released, we anticipate people will strongly reject this behavior and those who defended it or created false narratives. We also expect mainstream media to potentially abandon the story once the video is public because it will be as bad and one-sided as many expect.
Regarding fixing these issues, particularly within the black community, we admit we aren’t plugged in but suggest that the presence of a father in the home might be a starting point.
We also recently commented on a video by Ben Shapiro that seemed to equate the fundraiser for Karmelo Anthony with the fundraiser for Shiloh Hendricks. We strongly disagree with this comparison, as one involved a loss of life while the other involved a harmful word. Comments we’ve seen online also overwhelmingly reject this equivalence.
